A: Cutting

The and unweathered rock samples collected in the field were first selected, and then the saw blades were cut to the proper size of the glass slides. Since diamonds are by far the hardest material, the laboratory saw blades and grinding plates are coated with diamonds in order to cut rock samples of varying hardness.

B: Grounding

The cut specimen and the slide to be glued are ground respectively with # 600 ~ # 1000 silicon carbide powder to make the section plane of the rock sample smooth. Check whether the section is flat and smooth, the rock sample can face the light source, observe whether the reflection is good to judge.

C: Gluing

The finished sample is bonded to the ground glass with Epoxy Resin. Before gluing, the contact surface should be cleaned with alcohol, and no air bubbles between the sample and the glass should be formed during gluing, so as not to affect the adhesion strength during slicing.

D: Slicing
After the glue is hardened, the specimen is cut and ground into 100 ~ 150μm thickness by Petro-thin machine. Because the machine is too fast, it can not be ground into thin specimen.

E: Grinding

A micrometer was used to determine the thickness of the specimen. The specimen of 100 ~ 150μm thickness was fixed on the vacuum chuck by vacuum principle, and then ground directly on the Lapping plate to the standard thickness of 30μm.
